Claimed his ninth European Tour title when he became the first player to win the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship twice by following his 2007 victory with a second win in 2009. By taking his tally of victories to nine, he moved up to fifth in the all-time list of English winners. Made a third successive Ryder Cup appearance in 2008 when selected by Captain Nick Faldo, continuing his fondness for team golf. Has tasted success at every level from the Walker Cup as an amateur, to the Seve Trophy, World Cup and Ryder Cup as a professional. Also developed a reputation as a player for the big occasion. In 2007 was one of only seven players to make the cut in all four Majors during the year and in 2008 his eight top tens were concentrated on the year’s biggest events. In 2006 produced some spectacular golf in finishing second on the Order of Merit and winning The 2006 European Tour Golfer of the Year and Shot of the Year Awards. Won three times that year which included a record 10 and 8 victory over Shaun Micheel in the final of the World Match Play Championship. A week later he was unbeaten in The Ryder Cup at The K Club, during which he produced a hole-in-one to close out his Saturday foursomes match, a shot later voted Shot of the Year. In the 1999 Walker Cup he became only the third player to record four victories without a defeat. While at college at Arizona State became the first player to win three successive Pac-10 Championships. Victory in the 2000 Pac-10 Championship broke the scoring record held by Tiger Woods. Long-term coach is American Peter Kostis and in 2007 set up his own Paul Casey Foundation to help juniors at Foxhills GC where he grew up.
