Alongside Quality and Environmental Care, Safety is the third core value of the Volvo brand, and though its innovative and industry leading Volvo City Safety, Volvo was seeking ‘Crash test Dummies’ at the Volvo World Match Play Championship at Finca Cortesín.
And there was no shortage of volunteers to test the latest innovation, which is standard in the new Volvo XC60 exactly 50 years after Volvo’s groundbreaking three-point safety belt was launched.
“There has been incredible interest in and requests to test out the Volvo City Safety here in the Volvo Village at the Volvo World match Play Championship,” explained Jonas Wepsäläinen, Volvo City Safety expert, adding, “The system is especially effective in the event of low speed urban collisions and can help to save many loves and prevent injuries.”
He adds, “The Volvo City Safety collision avoidance system uses laser-based technology to sense if a vehicle in front within six to eight metres is at a standstill or moving slowly and if an impending collision is anticipates, the brakes pre-empt the driver’s response by taking over and stopping the vehicle automatically.
“There are two systems, city centre low speed collision avoidance and high speed collision warming with auto brake, and there are future plans to offer the system throughout the Volvo range,” continued Jonas Wepsäläinen.
Said ‘Crash Test Dummy’ volunteer Pepe Sanchez from Seville, visiting the Volvo World Match Play Championship with his wife and two children, “Now that we have children, safety – and environmental care - become even more important when choosing a new car and we are certainly very impressed when testing Volvo’s new system, which can help save a lot of lives and reduce serious injuries.”
