Weather or Not to Visit the Volvo World Match Play Championship
10/29/2009
After several successive years of disappointing autumnal Andalucían weather at the Volvo Masters at Valderrama, the weather gods have certainly shone on Finca Cortesín and the inaugural Volvo World Match Play Championship.
And the man responsible for the European Tour’s weather forecasting, Mike McClellan has good news for players, organisers and spectators alike.
“We have a very settled weather pattern over Andalucía right now and there is no reason to suggest that is going to change during the Volvo World Match Play Championship,” says the man who had so much bad news to deliver at last year’s 21st and final Volvo Masters, adding, “The players may have some difficulties with tricky and unpredictable winds spring up and then disappearing just as quickly, making club selection very difficult.”
And the meteorologist has a word of advice for spectators planning on visiting the Volvo World Match Play Championship, explaining, “The sun is still strong down here at this time of year and I would recommend wearing sub screen and bring a hat, which is a nicer problem to report than in recent years.
