Singh Hoping for a Volvo Hat Trick
10/28/2009
Indian star Jeev Milkha Singh turned his career around when he won the Volvo China Open in 2006 and it went stratospheric just six months later when he became the first Asian golfer to win the Volvo Masters at Valderrama. Now the 37-year-old from Chandigarth is at the Volvo World Match Play Championship with an eye on making it a Volvo hat trick. “The Volvo China Open victory re-launched my career, and the Volvo Masters win was probably the biggest breakthrough in my career so far,” says Singh, just back from home in India and nursing an ankle injury. “Yeah, it’s a little bit sore but we’ll see how it goes round what looks a very tough golf course,” admitted the man who chose to play the Volvo World Match Play Championship over the defence of his Singapore Open crown this week. “Volvo has been great for me, great for golf and they understood when I was unable to defend the Volvo China Open when I qualified for the US Masters, and it’s good to be able to reciprocate this year.” Jeev Milkha Singh is in a tough group, the 15th seed up against Lee Westwood, Camilo Villegas and Ross Fisher for a place in Saturday’s semi-finals. www.volvoworldmatchplay.com
