Finca Cortesin

When I hear ‘Finca Cortesín’ I think of a wonderful place, match play and great food! This is a week where everyone is treated like a king or queen! I was there 2009 and would love to go back. The hotel and the villas are beautiful and the views are stunning. One of the hotels restaurants, Schilo, is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. The dining experience there was amazing. It would be worth going back just to eat there again!

Volvo pays attention to detail and to be at a tournament that is run so smoothly is always special. Everyone here will enjoy the week, whether they play or watch!

I love match play; it is a great format to play. I am sure the players will be extra motivated to play match play since it is a Ryder Cup year.

Match play promotes positive and aggressive play. I think that some of the best golf I have seen has been played with “freedom” -and match play gives you freedom if you let it! It always seems like more chip shots are holed in match play. It is great to watch a player hitting a shot without worrying about the outcome!

You can go for shots you would normally not go for, because you can ‘only’ lose one hole. However, that hole can be crucial so make the right decision and hit the right shot!

Match play can also be tough, luring a player into paying more attention to the other player than playing his or her own game. Like most things in life, it is good to have a balance. In one way, you want to keep an eye on what your opponent is doing and at the same time you want to think about your own game.

Finca Cortesín is a fun match play course with a few holes where you can be really aggressive and go for the green (depending on how they set the course up and weather of course). When you play match play you can play your best game and still lose and play average and win. That can be frustrating, but I think that is one of the challenges!

The tournament is set up so you have to play two players before it is decided who goes through from your group. That is fun for the spectators and it gives the players a chance to get through even if they lose the first match.

I have always loved the Volvo World Match Play Championship and hope to be back here again some time.

The field is great, there is a mix or nationalities and a few major champions playing.

Let the show begin!
