In October 2006, Finca Cortesín Golf Club was born with the intention of becoming a reference point on an international level in the world of golf. Just over 2 years later, it has been appointed host to the Volvo World Match Play Championship.
The course is spread over more than 70 hectares where real estate developments do not interfere with the game and as such remain virtually invisible.
Designed by Cabell Robinson, known as one of the world’s top golf course designers, all aspects of this exciting sport have been taken into consideration: topography, dominating winds, the strategy of the game, etc. Gerald Huggan collaborated on the landscaping of the course paying particular attention to the flora. Furthermore, the course was built “following the highest specifications”, as enforced under USPGA guidelines for the creation of greens.
The par 72 course, measures 6,870m from the professional tees, found ordinarily in the most important courses in the USA. Multiple tees in each hole in addition to its width allow players to enjoy on all levels. The shape of the holes is actually conceived by its natural surroundings.
The course has been adapted to the terrain and its natural flora whilst at all times respecting the majority of the existing vegetation. Furthermore, Finca Cortesin is committed to caring for the environment by means of a conservation program which includes the use of recycled water, to the conservation of the flora and native fauna. To maximise its potential, the club house offers membership to a limited number of 750, in addition to the “Pay and Play” option.
